What are THREADS?

Threads are hypodermic needles preloaded with a PDO absorbable suture that can help provide a non-surgical facelift. A thread lift treatment is less invasive than a traditional facelift procedure and can be performed within 45 minutes.

Threads are great for lifting sagging skin, defining facial contours, and increasing the production of collagen and elastin. Commonly treated areas include the cheeks, jowls, jaw, neck, and corners of the eyes (to address crow’s feet).

Why choose THREADS?

  • Natural results
  • No surgery
  • Lunchtime procedure
  • Uncontested for Neck & Jawline (but not limited to)

WHAT IS A PDO ABSORBABLE SUTURE?

  • PDO is a synthetic absorbable surgical suture composed of polydioxanone. It’s used for cardiothoracic surgery (such as open-heart surgery) and is one of the safest materials to implant in the body.
  • Your skin fully absorbs PDO within 4 to 6 months & won’t leave you with any scar tissue.

How does it work?

IT’S AMAZINGLY SIMPLE!

Controlled Healing

A thread lift procedure works by triggering one’s Selective Inflammatory Response which, in medical terms, is the principle behind many cosmetic procedures such as Fractional Laser procedures, Chemical Peels, and microneedling treatments.

Our skin is very good at repairing itself. Threads can kickstart the healing process, helping us create new collagen naturally for a deep, long-lasting facial rejuvenation!

YOUR SKIN GENTLY REACTS TO THE INSERTED THREADS

  • Yes, PDO is fully absorbable, but that doesn’t mean your skin won’t react to it. During the 4 to 6 months needed to fully absorb the PDO suture, your skin is also repairing itself around it.
  • It’s “controlled healing” happening underneath the skin!

Mesh or Lift

NuMesh creates a mesh under the skin (i.e., 2 sutures inserted vertically and 3 sutures inserted horizontally), sort of like a #hashtag or a net. This mesh will serve as the foundation for our new collagen production. The NuMesh tightens the skin naturally from within. Results appear naturally, without any drastic change!

The other technique, called the NuLift is utilized to produce a more dramatic and immediate result. The PDO sutures have “barbs” or “cogs”-, which provide a grip underneath the skin. Sutures are inserted the same way, except they can be pulled in 1 or 2 directions, creating an instant skin repositioning. Just like the NuMesh, the skin will then build new collagen which will secure the lift!

No cuts or incisions. Purely injections!

In this common, FDA-approved procedure, target areas are cleaned with alcohol before a local anesthetic is applied under the skin. The threads are needles that are pre-loaded with a PDO thread. A board-certified plastic surgeon inserts the entire needle into the interstitial tissue at the subdermal level, parallel to the surface of the skin, and then pulls the needle out, leaving the PDO thread behind. The barbed thread remains under the facial skin, keeping it tight and reducing the appearance of fine lines. This non-surgical procedure can be performed with or without local or general anesthesia.

Restoring the V-Shape

A beautiful and healthy face has a “V-shape.”

With the aging of tissues and the action of gravity, this “V-shape” diminishes or inverts. The NuMesh and the NuLift techniques create a scaffolding to support the tissues and keep them in the “V-shape, or where necessary, delicately lift the tissues and reposition the skin. This lifting effect helps to recreate the “V-shape” on the lower face where it has been lost.

Neck & Jaw

Although threads can be inserted almost anywhere, one area where they are especially effective is the neck and jawline. The lower third of the face is challenging to treat effectively with botulinum toxin (also known as Botox) or injectable dermal fillers, which are most effective in the upper and middle third of the face.

BEFORE AND AFTER

AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR PDO THREADS?

The best candidates for PDO threads are men and women in their 30s and above who want to treat mild to moderate signs of aging. PDO threads create great results, improving skin sagging and wrinkles while defining contours at the cheeks and jawline.

Those with severe signs of aging may need to explore other options to achieve their aesthetic goals. Consult with Dr. Allenby to get the best recommendation for your skin concerns.

Individuals with active skin infections or inflammation should treat these skin conditions before undergoing a PDO thread session. Please ensure that you have no medical history of blood-clotting disorders.

People who have thin skin, are not close to their ideal or healthy weight, are too thin, or have too much loose skin may not be suitable candidates for PDO threads. Those with advanced signs of aging or who are older may get less dramatic results from this procedure. People with autoimmune disorders are not good candidates for this procedure.

YOUR PDO THREADS CONSULTATION

A PDO threads consultation will begin with a discussion of your appearance goals. Dr. Allenby will discuss the results that can be achieved to set proper expectations.

Please provide your complete medical history, including your current prescriptions and allergies. An overview of your physical health will help Dr. Allenby prepare an effective and safe treatment for you.

WHAT IS AFTERCARE LIKE?

You can go home directly after getting PDO threads without any need for recovery or downtime. You may experience mild bruising or swelling within 24 to 48 hours after the procedure, but you can resume your daily activities immediately with little to no recovery time.

Do not rub your face for a week to avoid dislodging the threads. Avoid drinking with a straw, smoking, or pursing your lips for a few weeks. Make sure not to do intense workouts, sleep on your side, or go to saunas for one to two weeks after getting a thread lift.

Like any cosmetic procedure, a PDO threads treatment has potential risks and side effects, including bruising, swelling, allergic reaction, and infection. Follow the advice of your practitioner to ensure you heal safely and effectively.

HOW MUCH DOES A PDO THREAD LIFT COST?

The total cost of a PDO thread treatment will depend on the number of sessions required. Price can also be affected by the number of areas being treated. Speak with our financing department to discuss payment options.
